Florida’s Showcase Green Envirohome:

This project was brought to life with 5 greenroof areas totaling 896 square feet.  This residential application of greenroofs was an instrumental component of the near-zero discharge site design.  The project location is in Indialantic Florida so salt tolerance was an important factor when selecting plants.  The plants used on the greenroof areas were selected to withstand the salt environment as well as the high temperatures and high sun exposure.  The greenroof areas are irrigated with a combination of recycled stormwater runoff from the site, greenroof filtrate, gray water, and groundwater from an onsite well.  All irrigation waters are stored in onsite cisterns for use for irrigation.
